Sport Management (Doctoral) - How to Apply
- All applicants must meet the UConn Graduate School requirements for admission
- Visit the Graduate School admissions website for additional information and resources on how to apply to UConn
- Complete your application by December 1 for admission the following Fall. Applicants who submit by December 1 will be considered for funding opportunities (graduate assistantships, teaching assistantships).
- Apply online to the UConn Graduate School. In the application, select Learning, Leadership, & Education Policy (PhD) field of study and note the Sport Management Concentration on the application
- Complete your application by December 1 for Fall semester admission
- Note, the Admissions Committee cannot make a decision about your application until all materials are submitted
- Submit a 2-3 page (double-spaced, size 12 point font) personal statement. In your statement address your:
- Reasons for pursuing the degree
- Background, experiences, and/or qualifications for the program and concentration to which you are applying
- Research interests
- Professional goals, and how the Sport Management Ph.D. degree relates to those goals
- Submit a professional or academic writing sample (no more than 10 pages). If applicable, include a brief explanation of how this work relates to your research interests. The writing sample should demonstrate your scholarly thinking, academic or research writing skills, and ability to synthesize information. Examples of appropriate writing samples include, but are not limited to, undergraduate or graduate thesis, a research paper, or literature review. If your original writing sample exceeds 10 pages, please select an excerpt
- Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae
- Complete a Residence Affidavit
- GRE scores are not required for the Department of Educational Leadership Ph.D. If they are submitted, they will not be reviewed as part of a student’s application.
- Arrange for three recommendations to be submitted on your behalf. Recommendations should explicitly address your readiness to perform in a doctoral level program. Recommenders may address such attributes as your analytical thinking skills, writing skills, research or inquiry skills, creativity, initiative, collegiality, time management skills, etc.
*Note that the individuals providing letters of recommendation on your behalf may electronically send their letters to our admissions office through the Graduate School online application system. When you are completing the online application, be sure to mark “Yes” for the question on the Provider Input Form, indicating which individuals will submit their letter electronically - Application finalists may be asked to participate in an interview with program faculty. The interview may be conducted in-person, phone, or video conference
